PREVENTION

AVOID WATER & MOISTURE

Submerging in water or prolonged exposure to moisture whether intentionally or accidentally can lead to the leather patch warping, shrinking, and interfering with the adhesive potentially causing it to peel away from the hat. If it gets a little wet from rain, you should've have any issues.

  • If your leather patch hat has been submerged in water, or exposed to moisture for an extended duration do NOT use a heater or blow dryer, just leave it in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight to let the moisture evaporate naturally. This may not solve all the above problems, but it should help to prevent any further damage.

AVOID EXCESSIVE HEAT

We get it, we're in Arizona, it's HOT. Being out in the sun all day is totally fine, but if the patch is exposed to temperatures above 150º F. it may cause the adhesive to melt and the patch may peel away from the hat or potentially detach from the hat altogether.

  • If your leather patch has started peeling away from the hat due to heat exposure, keep the patch pressed against the hat until it cools down.
  • If the hat is already cooled, you can use a heated blow dryer to re-heat the patch & adhesive while keeping pressure on the patch to adhere it back in place until it cools.

NO WASHING MACHINES

Obviously washing machines use water, as well as heat, both of which are key things that will make your leather patch hat, no longer a leather patch hat. Don't do it, no matter who's stuck in there, it's a trap.

CLEANING STEPS

Hats can accumulate dirt, sweat, and oil from hair and skin over time. These unsightly spots are a common issue, but proper care can help restore and prolong your hat's life. Here's 5 simple steps to keep your patch hat BUSSIN'.

YOU'LL NEED:

  • SPRAY BOTTLE
  • COLD OR ROOM TEMP WATER
  • DAMP MICROFIBER TOWEL
  • NEUTRAL DETERGENT (BAKING SODA)
  • DRY MICROFIBER TOWEL
  • WELL VENTILATED ROOM

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Using a spray bottle filled with cold or room temperature water, give the hat a light dampening spray on the dirty areas.
  2. Grab a damp microfiber towel, work in some neutral detergent or baking soda and gently wipe the dirt from the hat and/or patch.
  3. Scrub gently for 30 seconds to 1 minute and let it sit for a few minutes.
  4. Grab a dry microfiber towel and gently wipe off the detergent from the cleaned area.
  5. Shape the hat in a natural position (as if you're wearing it) and let it sit in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight until it's completely dry.
  6. Do not attempt to speed up the drying process, let the moisture evaporate naturally.
